ideas?

September 25, 2007 at 10:04 pm (term media project)

i’m having a difficult time coming up with an idea for this project.

at one point in time i used to draw little comics with a character named jimmy. i’m thinking i may do a webcomic, or maybe a small animation, on jimmy’s journey through the media maelstrom.

i don’t know. just an idea.

stumble on

September 25, 2007 at 10:03 pm (media experiences)

so i downloaded a toolbar from http://www.stumbleupon.com yesterday. it’s not a new site, i’m sure lots of people have seen it before, but it was a totally new experience for me. i spent a good few hours looking around or, i guess, stumbling around different websites that random people had recommended. my bookmark folder has expanded a great deal since last night.
it’s an interesting idea, although i suppose it may have a hidden agenda. they do ask you several times to update your interests, and i have noticed that the advertisements on some of the pages are pretty parallel to the interest that the website falls under.
the site that actually got me onto stumbleupon was http://www.musicovery.com
it’s an online radio station that has a really interesting way of coming up with the music to play. having some sort of a background in building websites, i’m extremely curious about the how-tos of how this site works. also, they have some really decent music.

your job in iraq

September 20, 2007 at 4:14 pm (media experiences)

http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/propaganda_your_job_in_siraq_s_germany/

my brother sent me this link in an email a few days ago.  the point of the posting, obviously, is to show the parallels between the war in iraq and the war in germany. the content was very interesting (i really liked the idea of “fake peace” near the end, as well as the fact that every single german person has the potential to be a nazi so there had better be no fraternizing), but what i really dug was the fact that we have the technology to enable us to watch these pieces of history that would otherwise be far more difficult for the public to view. it’s the same with being able to download the old school racist cartoons off of limewire, or to be able to watch commercials from turkey on youtube (which reminds me, i have a fantastic commercial from turkey i need to figure out how to post).

who knows. maybe in 20 or 30 years we’ll be able to watch the propaganda that the soldiers today have to endure.

Hello world!

September 6, 2007 at 5:02 pm (Uncategorized)

well, it seems like everyone has already plunged headfirst into here, so maybe i should meander over into the world of wordpress.

i haven’t used this program, or this sort of program before, so i was actually a little confused when i first pulled up this page. i’m still sort of unclear on how everything works, especially in the editing the look of the page aspect. (ps thalie, your page is beautiful!)

as for project ideas, i’m pulling total blanks. does it have to be about media/media theory? or does it just have to involve some form of media? ah well, i’m sure it will be figured out eventually.
